Impulse Drive Re-Gear Kit Manual

Your Impulse Drive Re-gear Kit comes with 3 different gear ratios 6:1, 8:1, and 10:1. With each step up in gear ratio you will gain more revolutions of the propeller per revolution of the pedals, this will come at the expense of effort needed to pedal, with each step up requiring slightly more effort to pedal. The standard ratio on the Impulse Drive from the factory is 6:1.  (download and print this article below)

To change the gearing on your Impulse Drive you must first remove 7 screws at the bottom of your impulse drive.

1: 2x 47mm bolts
2: 2x 16mm bolts
3: 18mm bolts
4. Water Filter
5. Propeller Gear
6. Drive Gear

  1. Remove the bolts and set them aside, then remove the housing panel (you may need to pry this gently with a flat tool)
  2. Note, the water filter (#4) may fall out when you remove the access panel make sure you do not lose this
  3. Lift the propeller out of the housing, it is attached to the smaller of the 2 gears via the propeller shaft. Remove this gear off the propeller shaft by inserting the 1 Allen key into the Allen bolt that is securing the gear, and the other Allen key into the Allen bolt that is securing the propeller, turning them both against each other to loosen the gear off the propeller shaft
  4. Remove the drive gear off the drive shaft using the included Allen key
  5. After you have chosen a gear ratio to install, first install the drive gear. The teeth should face down towards the bottom of the drive. Tighten the Allen bolt with the included Allen key
  6. Next install the propeller gear onto the propeller shaft, teeth facing away from the propeller tighten the Allen bolt securing the gear to the shaft.
  7. Reinstall the propeller and shaft back into the housing ensuring that it indexes against the drive gear
  8. Reinstall the filter (#4)
  9. Reinstall the skeg into place
  10. Reinstall the housing panel tightening the bottom screws (#3) and working up to the top (#1)
Note: If you re-use the existing hardware in your drive, you will have extra hardware remaining after installation.
